A NEW EXPERIENCE AT RAGAMA

The leaders camp was  held on 25th and 26th of September 2010. We learned many things in the leaders camp. Those attending came from different areas. We were divided into four teams but worked together  to complete our tasks. This is the second time the leaders camp was held. The last camp we attended was held in september 2008.

We had teachers to lecture on First Aid. We also learned how to take challenges with all the  out door team building work. At was first  we afraid but later we  enjoyed it and we did not want to stop. We learned lot of things that weekend- to work together as a team and to build confidence, trust and friendship. It was the day I really learned  leadership skills. we are transformed  with better  skills. We shared our rooms with strangers who later became our friends.  It was a golden opportunity for all of us.

It was an unforgettable day in our lives.

The pencil

I am just a little pencil
That’s made of wood and lead
My body is long and pointed
My body is smooth and red
I once was long and handsome
But I know soon  must die
I like to write quite  nicely
but master does not try
He treats me very badly and
often shaves my head
He cuts me so unkindly
that I shall soon be dead
He sucks me too – I hate it
and put me in the ink

Just tell me what you
think about me and
my master

The dark night

The sky was dark and deep,
There were no stars in the sky,
All those stars are hibernated,
But one star in the corner of the sky.

The star was slowly come down,
That star said,
“I am the beautiful
I am the brightness
I am the magnificent”

But there was no star in the sky
I think it may be my dream only.

Let us protect our nature

This nature is owned by us. We must protect our nature because nature also protects us. That is our responsibility. Some people are cutting trees; destroy the nature and also water, and hunting the animals. Those are very bad deeds. Nature is essential to us.

Sometimes we cut one tree, after we must plant one or more trees. Because we prepare the beautiful nature. We don’t pollute the water. Because there is also sea living beings in the water. We can take anything from nature for our use. There is, especially water and oxygen, light, wind, cold, hot, shadow and also flora and fauna. Therefore we must protect not only Sri Lankan nature we must protect the whole world’s nature.

I thank God for this beautiful, magnificent, excellent, sweet and also protect able nature given to me. I love all nature. You too should love and protect it.

H P Nilupul Dananjaya – 15 years old

Math, English and Science classes held by the MJF Kids Programme has helped me very much in my school work.

Through the MJF Kids Leadership training meeting I was able to find my talents in speech and leadership. I see myself as different to other kids in my class at school. I have improved tremendously. I want to be an example to other kids around me.

I did not have a target in my life. I just spent my days…. Now I have an ambition of being a teacher.

My advice to other children is to study well. We will not get this time again. ‘Think before you do something’!

Y Krishanthini – 12 years old

I was a sad, lonely child without much love from my parents. I was with my grandparents. I felt like an orphan. I didn’t want to listen to anybody; I did things the way I wanted. I was all the time angry. I was a child who couldn’t speak or write a word of English, I felt I was a failure all the time.

After I joined the MJF Kids programme my life started to change gradually. I learnt to respect people. I feel that my teachers love me and care for me more than my parents and now I am a happy, content child.

I used to get very low marks for my subjects but now I see how much I have developed myself in all areas. I am proud to say that the MJF Kids programme has changed my life for good.

As I was attending the MJF Kids Leaders meetings I discovered my hidden talents such as leadership qualities, presentation skills, dancing, poetry, and drama. In fact I have won awards at district level and all island competitions.  My teachers have appointed me as a leader in school. I have acquired good manners too.

I didn’t have an ambition in life. I was told by my teacher to have an ambition so that we can target and work towards it. My one and only ambition is to become a doctor. I have pasted labels on the wall with “I AM A DOCTOR” written on it. This constantly reminds me of my great ambition. I believe in myself now, I think I am a very talented, capable girl and there is nothing that I cannot accomplish if I try. My sir was very instrumental in changing my life for what it is now.

Now I have so much of love for my sister and brother. I teach them what is right and wrong.

I will be ever grateful to the MJF Kids programme as this is the only place that was able to change my future for betterment and will give my fullest support even in the future.

My advice to other children is that our focus should be on studies at this age, if we work towards our dreams and believe in ourselves we can make a difference. I want to help my friends in whatever way I can.
